Overview

TZ5 and TZ10 are research vials of a once-weekly peptide that acts on two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1. This dual action is studied for weight management and blood-sugar control.

This listing is Vita Science TZ5 5 mg (5 mg), photographed as we ship it and priced in Canadian dollars.

How it works

Activating both incretin receptors increases insulin release with meals, slows stomach emptying and reduces appetite.

Clinical reference

The approved medicine in this class starts at 2.5 mg once a week and rises by 2.5 mg every four weeks, to a maximum of 15 mg a week.

Reference information from product labels and clinical literature only. It is not a recommendation or dosing advice for you; any use should be set and monitored by a doctor.

Combinations and interactions

  • Low blood sugar risk with insulin or sulfonylureas.
  • May reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives around start-up and dose increases.

Risks and side effects

  • Stomach effects. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation.
  • Pancreas and gallbladder. Pancreatitis and gallstones are listed risks for this class.
  • Thyroid. Not for people with medullary thyroid cancer history.
  • Sterility. Freeze-dried peptides must be reconstituted with sterile technique; contamination can cause abscesses.

Do not use it if you are pregnant, have had pancreatitis, medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2.

Bloodwork to discuss with your doctor

  • Fasting glucose and HbA1c
  • Kidney function
  • Lipase if abdominal pain develops

Injection sites

TZ5 5 mg is a freeze-dried powder. After it is mixed with bacteriostatic water it is normally injected under the skin with a short insulin needle. These are the three standard subcutaneous areas; rotate between them.

1AbdomenBelly · Fat under the skinSubQ

Finding it. Anywhere on the belly at least 5 cm from the navel, away from scars and the waistband. Pinch a fold and inject into it.

Why it is used. The most fat, steady absorption and easy to see.

Watch for. Move each injection a few centimetres from the last to prevent lumps.

2ThighFront of the thigh · Fat under the skinSubQ

Finding it. The middle of the front of the thigh, a hand-width below the hip and above the knee.

Why it is used. Easy to reach and a good rotation partner for the belly.

Watch for. Absorption can be a little slower than the abdomen.
