Overview

Tesamorelin is a stabilised growth-hormone-releasing hormone analogue approved in Canada as Egrifta to reduce excess abdominal fat in people with HIV-associated lipodystrophy.

This listing is Vita Science Tesamorelin 10 mg (10 mg), photographed as we ship it and priced in Canadian dollars.

How it works

It stimulates natural growth-hormone release, which raises IGF-1 and reduces visceral fat.

Clinical reference

The Egrifta label is 2 mg injected under the skin of the abdomen once a day.

Reference information from product labels and clinical literature only. It is not a recommendation or dosing advice for you; any use should be set and monitored by a doctor.

Measuring calculator

Type the amount from your prescription or clinician; the calculator only converts it. It does not suggest how much to take.

Vial contains 10 mg. U-100 insulin syringes have 100 units per ml.

Combinations and interactions

  • Can raise blood sugar; monitor if you take diabetes medicines.
  • Affects how the liver processes some drugs such as corticosteroids.

Risks and side effects

  • Sterility. Freeze-dried peptides must be reconstituted with sterile technique; contamination can cause abscesses.
  • Joint pain and swelling. Common in trials.
  • Blood sugar. Glucose intolerance.

Do not use it if you are pregnant, have active cancer, or a pituitary condition.

Bloodwork to discuss with your doctor

  • IGF-1
  • Fasting glucose and HbA1c

Injection sites

Tesamorelin 10 mg is a freeze-dried powder. After it is mixed with bacteriostatic water it is normally injected under the skin with a short insulin needle. These are the three standard subcutaneous areas; rotate between them.

1AbdomenBelly · Fat under the skinSubQ

Finding it. Anywhere on the belly at least 5 cm from the navel, away from scars and the waistband. Pinch a fold and inject into it.

Why it is used. The most fat, steady absorption and easy to see.

Watch for. Move each injection a few centimetres from the last to prevent lumps.

2ThighFront of the thigh · Fat under the skinSubQ

Finding it. The middle of the front of the thigh, a hand-width below the hip and above the knee.

Why it is used. Easy to reach and a good rotation partner for the belly.

Watch for. Absorption can be a little slower than the abdomen.

Keep unmixed vials in the fridge (2 to 8 °C) and away from light. Once mixed with bacteriostatic water, keep the vial refrigerated, never freeze it, and follow the use-by time for that product.

This is a prescription medicine in Canada. A doctor should assess whether it suits you, choose the dose and monitor you while you use it.
